Heliotrope
This dark purple shade is named after the distinctive blooms of the Heliotrope plant. Early purple dyes were made from shellfish or snails until the accidental discovery of a synthetic alternative was discovered in the nineteen century whilst a scientist was trying to make a treatment for Malaria.*
